Solve multiplication problems
By taking some off and putting some on
The delightful illustrations in this unit will help to keep your students engaged as they expand their understanding of multiplication facts. In the first activity, birds show a multiplication sum that students are likely to know e.g. 5 x 30 = ___. In each of the birds' feet, students must then complete the equations that can be solved by 'taking some off', or 'putting some on' the original equation, e.g. 5 x 29 = ___ and 5 x 31 = ___. The second activity requires students to use the same strategy to fill in the tables of problems. The answers are provided.
