Jump through a tidy number to solve addition problems
Developing strategies for adding decimal numbers
The two pages of number lines in this unit encourage students to jump through a tidy number on each number line to solve addition problems. For example, to complete the equation 2.8 + ___ = 7.2, students need to place 2.8 and 7.2 on the number line and jump from 2.8 to 7 (a tidy number) , and then 7.2. students then add the numbers covered in the two jumps i.e.. 4.2 to 0.2 to complete the equation.
