Calculate easy combinations first in equations
In this unit, students revise looking at addition and subtraction of three or more numbers to calculate easy combinations of numbers in an equation first. In the first activity students are asked to help a shopkeeper add up his takings. Each question in this exercise consists of three numbers. In the second task students use compatible numbers to quickly find the total of the petals on each flower. Using a table that shows the number of chocolates sold within a class, your students will also need to work out which week had the best sales and how many chocolates some students sold altogether. The final three pages in this unit contain more addition problems and creative compatible numbers activities.
